This association agreement between the EU and Ukraine replaces the Partnership Agreement and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) signed in 1998.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, signed on Friday, March 21, at the Summit of Heads of State of the EU, the first part of the Association Agreement. This text aims to reach Ukraine to the EU by engaging both sides in a political association and economic integration.
Negotiated between 2007-2012, this agreement provides an advanced cooperation in different sectors: foreign policy, energy and nuclear policy, legal and judicial sectors. Chapters establishing a free trade area and providing a broad economic cooperation will be endorsed after the elections of May 25 in Ukraine and the formation of the new government, and after the launch of a sanitation program and economic reforms.
