The "Consorzio A.Bi.Pi. - Aglio Bianco Piacentino Monticelli of Ongina (Piacenza, Italy), was formed in 2010 by a group of producers of white garlic in order to follow the procedure for obtaining the IGP on this product.
In this regard, members of A. Bi.Pi. emphasizes that according to the specifications submitted by the association AINPO for IGP (Aglio Bianco Piacentino,) the product can only be obtained by certified seeds Serena & Ottolini, who are wholly owned by its partner Co . PAP Monticelli of Ongina.
Considering that Co.P.A.P. performs directly and independently all operations - from production of certified seed Serena & Ottolini up to production Aglio Bianco Piacentino, packaging and sales to the largest chains of retail distribution - it is likely that after obtaining the IGP it will keep interest for the exclusive management of production and distribution of this product.
In this regard, Davide Cattadori, President of A. Bi.Pi., said: "exclusive use of Serena & Ottolini seed causes a disparity between the members of Co.PAP and other producers, who are also entitled to use certified seed. "
