In Costa Rica various government institutions with the support of IICA (Instituto Interamericano de Cooperación para la Agricultura) have developed the Manual of Good Agricultural Practices for the Sustainable Production of Pineapple Crops to contribute to food security, environment protection, health, safety and the well-being of workers.
The presentation took place last Tuesday at the headquarters of IICA in Coronado. Various technical and interdisciplinary teams of government institutions have worked on the Manual such as the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Environment and Energy, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Labor.
This manual contains mandatory aspects which are explicitly indicated and which will be checked by the competent authorities. This manual will be reviewed and updated periodically to maintain its validity. The document becomes an indispensable tool for the management of the risks related to pineapple production, contributing to the development of respectful and sustainable agriculture, added Fernando Araya, Director of the State Plant Health Service (SFE).
