Diane Smith, executive director of the Michigan Apple Committee, said this year's crop will be good.
Michigan (U.S.) apple growers expect slightly lower volume this season than in 2023. In 2023, the state produced nearly 32 million bushels (609,600 tons) of apples, according to the USDA.
Diane Smith, executive director of the Michigan Apple Committee, mentioned that this year's crop will be good, but will likely fall short of 30 million bushels. Harvest began August 1 and will run through Halloween.
Producers continue to deal with high costs and inflation. Although margins are down, apples remain affordable for consumers, who value their nutritional value at a reasonable price.
