ILIP demonstrates the advantages of Heat - sealed containers for strawberries

More effective than trays with lid to limit weight loss of fruits.

ILIP, one of the largest European manufacturers of thermoformed plastic packaging, conducted a study with the Department of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Bologna and the  company Cesena Martorano 5. On the fundamental role of packaging to limit weight loss fruit.

Several packages (ILIP B22PET58 with and without cover and ILIP B40PET85 Heat -sealed) were studied. Once packed in three types of packaging, strawberries were stored for 2 days in a cold room and then divided into two groups: the first stored in the refrigerator for 7 days at 4 ° C (+ 2 days at 23 ° C) and the second at room temperature (23 ° C) for 2 days.

The heat-sealed trays proved to be far more effective than the trays with lid in terms of weight maintenance: a reduction of 1.4 g per day against 3.6 g.
