The frost episodes in April had a considerable impact on French pear production. This year the volume produced should be down -52% compared to 2020.
A recent Agreste Conjoncture report, from the Ministry of Agriculture, indicates that the production of pears in 2021 is estimated, on July 1, at nearly 70,000 tonnes. That is -52% compared to 2020 and -47% compared to the last 5 years.
As with cherries, this would be the lowest production for at least 46 years.
Production is expected to decrease in all producing regions: Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (-58%), Occitanie (-60%), Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (-52%), Center-Val de loire ( -62%), Pays de la Loire (-24%).
