Production of Fruit and Vegetables in State of Bihar (India)
India

Bihar is the fourth largest producer of mango in India, with 11 per cent of national production. Mango is the dominant fruit in the state, which has nearly half of the total fruit area. Despite Bihar's significant infrastructural difficulties, Bihar's mango can compete with African and South American product. Production seasonality could give Bihar an advantage to send the mango to the southern states where production peaks in April-May compared to June-July in Bihar.
Litchi is highly perishable with a very short harvest period. Bihar produces 71 per cent of national production and has 54 per cent of national area. The crop is exceptionally well suited to Bihar's physical environment, giving higher yields than competing states. Bihar has very little processing capacity; so much of the semi-processed litchi travels elsewhere for further processing.
Bihar also ranks third among Indian states in potato production.
