Early spring in southern Turkey

Winter is rampant in some areas, but the apricots in the region of Mut are in bloom. 

Because of temperatures between 15 and 20 degrees, unusually high for the season, many varieties of fruit trees blossomed in advance, at the beginning of February, instead of mid-March, usual period of flowering.

However, the Institute of food, agriculture and livestock warns producers of Mut of the danger of frost and it urges them to take various measures to protect the trees. Even though producers are not yet familiar with such measures, they are advised to take out agricultural insurance as well.
