Regular containerized freight transport service by rail launched in the Port of Valparaiso
VU
Last week, the first train with 27 export containers loaded with dry and refrigerated products arrived from the city of Teno in the Maule Region to the port of Valparaíso. Thus began the regular containerized freight transport service by rail, which will have 3 weekly routes destined to supply the ships of the Maersk CLX service, which, on their way to Europe, dock at TPS every week.
This initiative was carried out thanks to the efforts of the Valparaíso port, EFE, TPS, FEPASA and Maersk.
Alexandra Carmona, Landside Transportation Product Manager West Coast Maersk, commented that Maersk aims to continue developing sustainable solutions that minimize the carbon footprint in the supply chain. She pointed out that Maersk participates in these types of projects since they generate competitive advantages for their clients, within which they reduce the carbon footprint by 70% compared to traditional land transportation.
Jorge Gómez, the general manager of EFE Valparaíso, pointed out that this activity opens up a great opportunity to attract new importers and exporters interested in taking advantage of trains in their logistics processes. This time they started with 3 weekly trains, but later they would expand to 20 with the current installed capacity. Along with this, infrastructure improvements are also planned to make the process more efficient.
