TOMRA Food is uniting forces with WBCSD

On November 5, 2020 TOMRA Food, a global provider of sensors, equipment and digital solutions for the food supply chain, joined over 200 forward-thinking companies as the newest project member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).
TOMRA Food is a producer of sensor-based sorting machines and integrated post-harvest equipment for the food industry. The company uses one of the world’s most advanced grading, sorting, peeling and analytical technology.
Their main goal is to help their customers to improve returns, gain operational efficiencies, minimise food waste, ensure quality and a safe food supply with sustainable technologies.
Their solutions are installed at food growers, packers and processors around the world. This allows businesses to maximise productivity and recovery rates, while reducing food waste and developing the overall quality of the produce.
TOMRA already belongs to The Alliance to End Plastic Waste, and now is uniting with WBSCD to develop food sustainability.
“To o achieve a sustainable future for the food industry, governments, corporates and consumers alike, must change the way in which we produce and handle food – from farm to fork. By 2050, food demand will increase by 50 per cent, so meeting these challenges is vital to ensure food sector sustainability for future generations. At TOMRA Food, we’re committed to leading the resource revolution through our technology, helping improve yields, reduce food waste and use our food resources more efficiently – three key factors in food sustainability,” – comments Michel Picandet, Executive Vice President and Head of TOMRA Food.
WBCSD is a global, CEO-led organisation of over 200 advanced businesses gathered to expedite the transition to a sustainable world. They focus on the maximum positive impact for shareholders, the environment and societies.
WBCSD President and CEO Peter Bakker says that they are pleased to welcome TOMRA Food as the newest member of the FReSH project. He believes that TOMRA Food’s expertise in food sorting and peeling but also in combating food loss and waste will be beneficial to his organisation and other like-minded companies.
TOMRA Food is headquartered in Leuven, Belgium, and has regional offices, manufacturing locations in Europe, the United States, South America, Asia, Africa, New Zealand and Australia.
