According to the first estimate for the table grape export campaign 2021/22 from the Table Grape Committee of Chile, Chile will export about 84.6 million boxes (8.2 kilos each). This projection reflects a 14.9% increase compared to the 2019/20 season, and a 29.3% increase compared to the 2020/21 season, in which production was impacted by unexpected rains in summer.
According to the President of Fruit Exporters Association of Chile (ASOEX), Ronald Bown Fernández, higher export volumes are explained by the increased demand for the new varieties, +73.5% compared to the 2019/20 season and by more than +49.1%, if compared to what was sent in the 2020/21.
According to Bown, in this campaign, exports of new varieties would reach 35 million boxes, followed by traditional ones, with some 32 million boxes, and Red Globe, with around 17 million boxes.
It should be noted that Chile has a significant volume of green varieties, which are highly demanded by the markets of the United States, China, South Korea, among others. Bown emphasized that the sector must continue to take care of the production and export processes to maintain an excellent image of Chilean grapes in global markets. Finally, he stated that the second estimate will be delivered in mid-January 2022.
