Avocado production in Chile in the 2022/23 campaign was affected by frosts in the spring, which reduced the harvest to 186,000 tons (-15.45%), while last season's harvest was around 220,000 tons, according to the data from the Chilean Avocado Committee.
Exports this year are estimated at around 100,000 tons.
Climate change and the long drought in the country forced many producers to move to more southern regions; however, in addition to avocados, other fruits are grown in southern Chile, which means that the areas available for avocado production are more limited.
The decrease in planted areas, together with extreme weather events, have limited the development of production, although it will remain relatively stable in the coming years, they point out from the Committee.
