German consumption increased!
FJ
Good news for the entire euro zone: German consumers spend more (just a little!).
Retail sales rose by +2.5% in January compared to December, this is the largest monthly increase since February 2007. This trend is also found in February with +1.3%, according to the Federal Bureau of statistics.
Confirmation also from the side of external trade figures, German imports from the rest of the euro area rose by +8.4% in February 2014 compared to February 2013. German exports to other countries in the euro area are roughly equal to imports.
This "debauchery" of consumption could be explained by the increase of wages made recently ??after more than 10 years of wage moderation: +3% for public sector employees, +3.7% for employees in the chemical industry, +3.4% for employees of the industry.
