In the state of Veracruz in Mexico citrus production is expected to decline by 40%.
Adverse weather conditions have hit the orchards with the heat affecting half of citrus production, resulting in a decline in the quality of lemons and oranges, usually exported to Europe and Japan.
This was followed by a period of cold snap damaging many orchards.
The effects will be felt in the early months of 2012. The production of oranges and lemons is expected to decline by 40% as yields collapse and exports will fall.
