VU | National Mango Board
According to the National Mango Board (NMB), in the next 2 months the total export volume of mangoes to the U.S will increase by 34 % compared to the same period in 2020.
The Guatemalan mango season has started on week 8 and is expected to continue until the first week of June, with a projection of around 4 million boxes.
The 2021 Guatemalan season is projected to be about 40 % higher compared to the previous year which was cut about 4 weeks short due to the pandemic, totalling 2.8 million boxes, which is -20 % less volume than was previously expected. In 2015-2019, the average shipment from Guatemala was around 3.8 million boxes.
Mexico and Peru, currently, are harvesting, packing and exporting the fruit.
The Peruvian campaign is expected to be about 6 % lower year-over-year.
The Mexican campaign (through the end of June) is expected to be about 14 % higher year-over-year.
Mexico’s mango exports in 2020 were also influenced by the pandemic during March and April, but the 2021 mango volumes are estimated to be normal if compared to previous years.
