The Russian market has imported less apples since the beginning of the season (-15%), this trend continued in January.
Russian imports of apples are below their previous levels.
According to the Russian state statistics, the imports of apples in the country reached only 109,000 tons in January 2014, a decrease of 28% compared to the same date of the last year. The cumulation over the first months of the season shows a decrease of 15% compared to the previous year which reached 575,000 tons.
Professionals explain this decrease by the decline in exports came from Poland (nearly -25% since the beginning of the 2013/14 season) and a more moderate demand of Russian consumers.
