Domestic demand is progressing and should further increase, which will lead to an increase in imports.
Due to a large population, rapid urbanization and improved standards of living, demand has increased and Bangladesh has become a net importer of nuts (almonds, walnuts ...)
According to a recent USDA GAIN report, in Bangladesh the supply of quality nuts was limited and consumers were unaware of the health benefits of these fruits. Due to rapid urbanization, improved living standards and increased consumer awareness of the benefits of nuts, demand has risen sharply.
Now the country has become a net importer of nuts, importing almonds from Hong Kong (re-export hub), the United States, Singapore, Malaysia and Spain. Pistachios come from Iran and India and cashews from Ivory Coast and Singapore.
