1st Pear World Forum, Interpera on 22-23 May
Spain
Sunday 18 May 2008
Detecting a gap of specific information concerning pear, the Assembly of Horticultural European Regions (AREFHL) decided to organize the Interpera day to change the situation and to implement the 1st Pear World Congress.
Interpera was born six years ago with a clear international vocation, whose concrete result is the World Congress about the pear that will be held next 22 and 23 of May in Alplicat (Lleida). This congress is organized in collaboration with the professional association Catalonia Qualitat and the Department of Agriculture of the Generalitat of Catalonia. The aim is to be the global reference for pear production and market. In this regard, the intention of AREFHL is to enhance the representativeness of all pear-producing areas in Europe, consequently this congress will be itinerant being Catalonia its first headquarter. “We want to celebrate our little Prognosfruit focused exclusively on pear - declared Manel Simón, president and managing director of Catalonia Qualitat -. We have invited global key figures like both variety researchers and market analysts as speakers but we also opened the congress to producers, managers and to the business and the sector in general,” Simón highlighted. Regarding the various presentations scheduled for this edition, Simon stressed “the wide variety of topics of Interpera in 2008 where the new varieties and lines of investigation of the latest products will be reviewed focusing on products and consumer tastes trying to discuss about the main problems of pear. Attention will be focused on global flows, emerging areas of production and more consolidated areas; we will speak about attractive markets and recent advances in post-harvest.” There is no doubt that the content of the agenda is complete and the speakers are very specialised. Moreover under the framework of this congress will be announced preliminary estimates of present year’s pear crop.
