Official assessment of damages caused by frost that hit the country at the end of September and early October.
The Minister of Agriculture, Luis Mayol, presented the balance of damages caused by frost. The volume of exports for the 2013-14 season will decrease by 22% compared to 2012. The revenue generated by the exports would decline by $ 823 million.
The most affected species by frost, unusual during austral spring (September to December) are the kiwi, with a 60% loss of production, and almonds with a loss of 50%. Then cherries, peaches and nectarines (40%) and the raisins, walnuts, pears, blueberry, raspberry (10%), avocados (7%) and raspberries, oranges, lemons, apples (5%).
