Estimates for 2023/24 point to an increase in world production (+3%) and exports (+5%).
According to a report issued by USDA, the US Department of Agriculture, world production of shelled almonds for 2023/24 is estimated at 1.5 million tonnes, up 3% on the previous season.
This increase stems from forecast production increases in the USA (1.2 million tonnes, or +1%), the EU (148,000 tonnes, or +40%) and Australia (140,000 tonnes, or +28%). Chinese production is expected to fall from 50,000 tonnes to just 5,000 tonnes due to frost damage.
World exports should reach 1.1 million tonnes, up 5%. This is mainly due to demand from the Chinese market, which is expected to import 160,000 tonnes (+25%), and the Indian market, which is expected to import 170,000 tonnes (+11%).
