Import volume of vegetables in Spain grows 14% year-on-year and that of fruit remains flat

In 2022, Spanish imports of vegetables grew 14% in volume and 32% in value, totaling 1.8 million tons and 1,172 million euros, according to data from the Customs and Excise Department of the Tax Agency.
Potato was the one that stood out the most within the category, with a volume of 1 million tons (+20% year-on-year) for a value of 364 million euros (+55%). The tuber represented 56% of the total imported vegetables.
The second most imported vegetable by Spain in 2022 was tomato, with 188,058 tons (+5%) for 206 million euros (+32%).
The volume of fruit imports accumulated 2 million tons (+1%) and the value 2,591 million euros (+9%).
Banana led the ranking, with 403,702 tons (+9%) for 259 million euros (+29%). In second place was the avocado with 208,575 tons (-3%) and 404 million euros (-2%).
The third position was occupied by apples, with a volume of 195,524 tons (+6%) for 150 million euros (-4%), and fourth by pineapple, with 160,746 tons (-6%) for 134 million euros (+16%).
