Avocado Variety Hass Production and Export

In Peru farmers grow only Hass variety of avocado. This variety was developed in California by Rudolph G. Hass, and is currently the most commercial variety in the world and still developing. Hass avocado plantations in Peru are fairly young developing. Production in 2006 was at level of 110.000 tons and whole acreage of avocado cultivation 12.100 hectares. Exports in the year 2002 reached 4500 MT and in 2006 surpassed 19.000 MT. The Hass avocado harvest takes place in May, June, July, August and September. This timeframe is an important window of opportunity into international markets.
