France is the first European agricultural power

La value share of France (18.1%) in agricultural production in the EU, the position of N°1, followed by Germany (13.4%), Italy (12.3%) and Spain (10.6%). According to the classification established by Agreste based on 2011 figures.

Regarding exports, France is not the first agricultural and agri-food exporter of the European Union. Globally, in 10 years, France has increased from the second food exporter to 5th, behind the United States, Germany, the Netherlands and Brazil.

France had 490,000 farms in 2010, against 664,000 in 2000. La average area has increased and now reaches 56 hectares. But a quarter of farms with less than 6 hectares, a quarter more than 82. Sector (agriculture, food industries) represented 3.5% of gross domestic product and 5.6% of employment (1.42 million) in 2012.
