Italy
Sunday 15 June 2008
The 16th IFOAM Organic World Congress will start on Monday and run through Friday 20th of June in Modena, Italy. Organized by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) and ModenaBio 2008 - an association founded by the province of Modena and the Italian Association for Organic Agriculture (AIAB) of Emilia Romagna Region - the Congress promises to offer a comprehensive program for those interested in organic agriculture and more general in sustainable answers to current global threats like climate change.
This year congress’ title “Cultivate the future” stresses the belief that the contribution made by organic agriculture is fundamental for guaranteeing generations to come with a healthy and fair environment for harmonious living that respects people and the earth.
The congress program consists of two main tracks: the scientific research track, organized by the International Society of Organic Agriculture Research (ISOFAR), and the system values track, organized in cooperation with many other organizations including relevant United Nations agencies.
During the plenary of the first day, June 18th, Jørgen E. Olesen, professor in adaptation and mitigation to climate change in agriculture, and Vandana Shiva, Indian activist scientist involved in research on the effects of biodiversity loss, will frame their speeches within the Principle of Ecology.
