The EU receives 70% of Brazilian fruit exports, followed by the United States (15%), followed by South America and the Middle East.
In the first two months of the year, Brazilian producers exported 124,300 tonnes of fresh and processed fruits, an increase of 14.4% of the volume exported compared to the same period in 2017. In value the increase is even stronger with + 18.3%.
These data come from ABRAFRUTAS (Associação Brasileira dos Produtores Exportadores de Frutas e Derivados). The most exported fruits were oranges, whose volumes increased by 96.3% from 4 000 tonnes last year to more than 3.8 million tonnes shipped. Other significant increases: strawberry (394%) and banana (267%).
The organization stresses that despite these results, the country exports only 2.5% of the total volume of fruit produced. Brazil, the world's third largest fruit producer, with an annual volume of 44 million tonnes, behind China and India, is only 23rd in the list of leading exporters.
