Local apple growers reap benefits from imports

Higher quality and higher priced apple imports to India have encouraged local apple growers to improve their products and systems. Local producers have improved their growing, grading, sorting and packaging practices and have started growing new varieties in order to realise higher prices. The price of a box of domestically-grown apples has almost doubled since 1999.
