The Italian consortium of cooperatives VOG of South Tyrol has recently made its first kick off in Spain with the apple variety Marlene. Since the beginning of 2008 the VOG blue labelled apples are available for sale on the Spanish market.
The consortium’s target is to reach in three years 30,000 tons of apples sold in Spain thanks to exclusive agreements made with some importers.
“With 700-750,000 tons of apples consumed every year - VOG director Gerhard Dichgans declares - Spain is a very interesting market for Marlene brand, which so far was only available in Italy”. Mr. Dichgans explains: “The apple varieties that will be marketed on the Spanish market are five: Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Granny Smith, Fuji and Royal Gala”.
