In 2020 the turnover of mango exports reached 180.8 million USD, in 2021 the turnover reached 310 million USD, almost a multiplication by 2 and Vietnam plans another multiplication by 2 with the objective of USD 650 million by 2030.
According to MARD, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam is the 13th largest producer of mangoes in the world, with a production of around 893,000 tonnes (2020 figure). Last year, Vietnam exported more than 600,000 tons of mangoes worth 310 million USD. This represents a multiplication by 1.7 compared to the 180.8 million USD generated in 2020.
Vietnam has about 87,000 hectares dedicated to mangoes and many farmers with low-yielding rice fields have switched to fruit, adopting VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards as well as advanced techniques to produce quality fruit for export. The country plans to expand the total mango acreage by 2030 and increase exports to USD 650 million to take advantage of growing global demand.
Vietnamese mangoes are exported to 53 countries, but the largest market remains China, which imports the majority (83.95% of total turnover in 2020) of these Vietnamese fruits.
