Strawberries of Nîmes obtain the PGI
FJ
The European label PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) for Strawberries from Nimes.
The label has been obtained with the publication of the decree in the Official Journal of the European Union dated 21 June 2013. These varieties of strawberries are gariguette or Ciflorette.
These strawberries are grown in 28 towns south of Nimes, on the plateau of Costières, in the department of Gard. This area, in particular soil and conducive climate, promotes the production under protection only French strawberries grown in the open land and available on the market in early March. In 2012 the production reached 70 tons of strawberries.
