Downturn for citrus campaign
Israel
Friday 16 November 2001
Israel' s citrus industry suffered its worst season since World War II ! Indeed, its production dropped by a fifth to 664 000 tons. There are different reasons and implicate critical factors such as severe water shortages after three years of drought, a drop in export prices and political tensions in the region. Over the past three years, between 4 000 and 6 000 hectares of citrus groves have either been abandoned or uprooted.
