Intercitrus, out of crisis setting size limits
Spain
Friday 07 November 2008
The Spanish interprofessional promotional body for citrus fruits Intercitrus managed for the time being to get out of the crisis it had dropped in this summer.
During the Assembly held on October 6th the association eventually approved a minimum budget for 2009 of 294,000 euros, which will be destined to cover the expenses linked with some dismissals and its consequent operations, anyhow allowing its survival for the next year.
Furthermore, in an unprecedented move, Intercitrus has fixed minimum size profiles for the harvesting of key soft citrus and orange varieties for the fresh market. The extraordinary move demonstrates the will of the troubled organisation to try and ensure profitability in what promises to be a high-volume year.
The minimum size for Okitsu, Clausellina and Owari has been set at 52mm. For Oronules, Clementina Fina, Lorentina, Nour, Beatriz, Mioro, Esbal, Hernandina and Clemenruby it is 46mm and for Marisol, Arrufatina, Oroval, Orogrande, Clemenules, Clemenpons, Nadorcott, Ellendale, Clemenviall, Fortuna and Ortanique it is 50mm. Oranges in the Navel group have a minimum size set at 67mm, while it is 64mm for Valencia Late.
