After the letter from the Turkish President to Vladimir Putin, the Russian travel agencies rely on the Turkish destinations in their agenda. This positive evolution of Turkish-Russian relations are making exporters dream about a return to the past, where Russia is the main importer of Turkish fruits and vegetables, but also poultry.
President of the Management Board of the Association of Mediterranean Fruit and Vegetables, Ali Kavak, explains how the sector was hit by the plane's crisis as the Russian market amounted to USD 1.1 billion . He stressed that Turkey realized that half of its exports of fruit and vegetables are to Russia but that the main supplier of these products to Russia was Turkey, and that therefore the losses are for both countries important.
The fruit and vegetable exporters are hoping that the situation is improving rapidly thanks to intensive negotiations that would permit rapid entry of (in two weeks) Turkish products, which are currently sold slowly, with many obstacles and phytosanitary customs.
