Food consumption has increased

Spanish households have increased their purchases of food products.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Consumption of Spanish households has increased by 5.9% in July 2013 compared to July 2012 and for a value of +10%.
Progression of purchases of milk and daily products (+7.1%), eggs (+11.5%), meat (+1.3%), bread (+10%) and vegetables (+ 6%). Tomato consumption increased by +9% and that of lettuce by +7.4% .
From one year to another, from August 2012 to July 2013, the food consumption has remained almost stable, with an increase of 0.3% but the expenses rose by +1.6% due to the increase of average prices. Meat consumption has registered +0.2% representing 52.9 pounds per person, the consumption of fresh vegetables and potatoes increased by +1.2% or 86 kilos per person. Fruit consumption decreased by -1.5% (pears, tangerines, apples) but increased for cherries (+12.5%).
