Spanish brassica exports up 4.6%

The volume of Spanish fruit and vegetable exports fell during the first six months of 2008.
According to FEPEX, Spain exported a total of 5.7 million tonnes of fruit and vegetables during this period, 3.2% less than in the same period of 2007. However, the value of these exports rose 3.4% to a total of 4,957 million euros.
In the whole vegetables export, the volume of Spanish brassica totalled 243,797 tonnes during the period January-July 2008, according to the Spanish Federation of Fruit and Vegetable Producers/Exporters (FEPEX). These exports were worth a total of 198.8 million euros, 0.15% up on the same period of 2007.
While the value of the exports remained fairly stable, the export volume in the first six months of this year rose 4.6% compared with the same period of 2007, when 232,953 tonnes were exported, worth 198.5 million euros.
