Sustained demand for California almonds to set new record

Despite the various difficulties associated with the current context, ABC (Almond Board of California) reports a record harvest level and increasing shipments to its main destination markets.
With more than a month to go in the crop year, ABC (Almond Board of California) said the volume shipped in May totaled 99,336 tonnes (219m lbs), a record for the month. Bringing the total volume for this crop year, August 1 to July 31, to 1.11 million tonnes (2.45 bn lb). Volume that exceeds the record for the entire year in just 10 months.
According to ABC, demand remains strong both in the United States and abroad. California almonds are shipped to over 100 countries and export growth reached + 30% over last year with record shipments to some markets.
A single market, India, exceeded 300 million pounds (136,077 tonnes) in a single crop year. India imported 322 million pounds (146,056 tonnes) until May, a variation of + 54% compared to the previous season.
The Asia-Pacific region as a whole shows strong growth with an overall increase of 46%. The increase reached + 72% for the China / Hong Kong market, + 42% for the South Korean market and + 132% for Vietnam.
European markets have also strengthened their demand and exports to Europe are up 18% compared to 2019-20.
The Middle East and North Africa are also growing markets. The increase reached + 31% for the United Arab Emirates market, + 20% for Egypt and + 148% for Morocco.
On the American domestic market, demand remains strong with a growth of 4% for this crop year compared to the previous one.
