Festival of the Strawberries in Candamo (Asturia)

The festival of the strawberry that yesterday, like every year, was celebrated in Grullos reunited to hundreds of people interested in tasting one of the products most characteristic of Candamo. The visitors did not scrimp in purchases and exhausted one more year the strawberries available, although the prices promoted this year to 6 euros, euro more than in the 2006. The reason for this increase is in a bad harvest. Teresa Lopez, one of the exhibitors of the contest, explained the situation. "The variety of this year has been bad and of 7,000 plants I only could gather a kilo of strawberries for the exhibition and the sale", explained this grower of strawberries. Nevertheless, she participated in the contest "thanks to that she had plants of the last year".
