According to BCH, the Central Bank of Honduras, agricultural activities turnover in January and February 2015 totaled $ 131.4 million, or $ 1.5 million less than in the same period in 2014.
BCH estimates that the decline was driven by lower exports of melons, watermelons and vegetables, which could not be offset by increases in banana exports.The export of melons and watermelons reported $ 24.7 million, recording a 6.9% decline in volumes and a 2.5% drop in prices.
The United States and Europe were the main clients. Vegetable exports realized 17.2 million dollars, or a decreases of 2.4% in value and 1.2% in volume. The princiaples destinations were the United States, El Salvador and the United Kingdom.
Banana exports totaled $ 72.2 million, an increase of 1.5 million compared to the same period in 2014. The main buyers were the United States and Ireland who have acquired 99% of the total volume.
