More potatoes next season

The price increase was due to the poor harvest of 2015 and the producers of the Nevsehir region in central Turkey , traditionally area planted with potatoes, increased areas planted with this vegetable , from 15 000 to 20,000 hectares, according to the President of the Chamber of Agriculture of Derinkuyu .

A production of about 100 000 tonnes would be expected , despite the price of seeds which have risen sharply and weather problems.

In 2015, the shortage of this vegetable had pushed prices to unprecedented levels and severely affected the budget of the Turkish household.
