The northern regions of Turkey have experienced adverse weather conditions that have led to a drop in production of hazelnuts.
The price per ton of hazelnut increased from 6,500 dollars in February to 10,500 dollars last week.
Turkey, the first producer and exporter of hazelnuts, experienced adverse weather conditions that caused a drop in production of about -30%.
Production reached only 540,000 tons of hazelnuts against 800,000 tonnes usually. This huge deficit of 260 000 tonnes will weigh on world prices and raise prices.
