New market for Turkish citrus growers: the orange peel

The Çukurova region in southeastern Turkey is the largest production area of citrus. Apart from the export of fresh citrus, a new branch appears to be gaining momentum.

The orange peel is used in the cosmetic, food and pharmaceutical industries and countries like Germany, England and France import this product which is currently sold at about 2 Turkish lira (1 Euro is appr. 3 Turkish lira) per kilo.

This trade, which was only 20 to 30 tons in previous years is about 400 tons this season.
