After the 2018 edition in France, industry professionals, here the Italian participants, meet up for the next IKO Annual Conference in Italy.
The annual conference of the International Kiwifruit Organization (IKO) brought together representatives of the world's leading producing countries: Italy, Chile, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, Greece, as well as France, the host country and organizer of the conference held from 9 to 12 September in Bordeaux.
The conference is, as always, an opportunity to create synergies and exchange on the different themes that concern the cultivation of kiwifruit in the world, from production and commercial analysis to that related to phytosanitary aspects.
Regarding production estimates for the 2018/2019 crop year, excluding the yellow-fleshed kiwifruit, which has a very different marketing from that of Hayward, in the Northern Hemisphere (excluding China, of which information is very limited) the supply could reach 732 000 tonnes. That is + 6% compared to the weak production of the previous year, but -3% on average 2014-17.
The total production of kiwifruit in the Northern Hemisphere is therefore estimated at nearly 800,000 tonnes, which is + 9% compared to the previous year, a level very similar to that of the 2016 vintage.
The 38th edition of the IKO Conference in 2019 will be organized by CSO Italy from 8 to 11 September in Italy.
