Hail hits 200 ha of apple trees in Trentino

A hail storm occurred yesterday in the Val di Non valley, in Trentino region - the main Italian apple producing area -and damaged around 200 ha cultivated with apple trees. Councillor Tiziano Mellarini, responsible for Agriculture at the Trento Province, informed about that after an inspection. “The most affected area is the Livo one, but there are also great damages in Priò, Cles and Coredo. In Livo, half of the area hit by hail will be affected in its annual production by 60%. In the other zones damages are around 50%. The Province - Mellarini concluded - will grant to farmers any possible support and assistance to limit the losses, both in terms of regional and European aid”.
