This year the Indian state Himachal Pradesh will still be far from its record apple production: 892,000 tons in the 2010-11 season (photo indianexpress.com).
In India in the state of Himachal Pradesh the volume of apple production will decline, according to official estimates.
The Horticulture Department survey indicates that the state of Himachal Pradesh is expected to produce 436,000 tonnes or 2.18 crore of cartons (20 kg) of apples this season. This season would be the second year in a row where yields are below normal by 2.5 crore. In 2017-18, apple production was 2.23 crore of cartons (20 kg).
Industry professionals estimate that this decline in production is due to weather conditions. The snow was scarce this winter, which led to a lack of moisture in the soil and poor flowering in the spring.
Harvests have started in lowland orchards and will accelerate by mid-August and continue until September.
