2nd Turkish congress of quinoa growers

More than 1,000 participants are expected to participate in this congress, the second of its kind organized by TÜKİYED (Association of Turkish Quinoa Producers) on the different varieties of quinoa that can be grown in Turkey, the most suitable growing methods and production areas, Pests, etc. Information will also be exchanged on the marketing and the Turkish and foreign market of this product, whose consumption is increasingly popular in Turkey.
With the increase in quinoa production in Turkey, the import of this product, originating in South America, is expected to decline in the coming years.
The president of TÜKİYED, Can Temizel, stresses the need to create production standards to obtain a quality product and the countless benefits of quinoa consumption, which can even be used safely in baby food.
Among the 3800 varieties of quinoa listed since 1972, about 25 have been adapted to the conditions present in Turkey thanks to cooperation between producers and university researchers.
The Congress will be an opportunity to evaluate the progress made since 2012, when quinoa production started in Turkey, with statistics and the exhibition of the work of Dr. Özgür Kıvılımı Kılınç, who works in France on this product and is worldwide Recognized as a specialist in this field.
