The French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) will implement a € 3 million EU-funded program to develop strategies to prevent the spread of Sharka. This disease, also known as Plum Pox Virus (PPV), threatens productivity and quality of Prunus species in Europe.
The program, entitled Sharka Containment European (SharCo), will last for four years (2008-2012) and will aim at providing the EU with new tools and methods regarding epidemiology, agronomy and biology of the virus and its host plant.
