The BelOrta cooperative, Belgian leader in fruit and vegetable marketing, presents "EARTH", a new concept under which products from land in conversion to organic will be grouped and marketed.
To achieve organic production, farmers have to "convert" their land for a certain period of time. From the 1st day of this period, organic regulations must be respected but the sale of products as organic products is not possible.
This conversion period is a difficult stage for producers. Often, the term "product in conversion" is poorly understood by consumers and difficult to promote by retailers. Also to provide detailed information to direct customers and consumers, while creating better market opportunities for these products in transition, BelOrta has launched the "EARTH" concept.
"A good marketing and a fair appreciation of fresh fruits and vegetables in transition are necessary to achieve a new growth of organic production. This requires efforts on the part of all actors in the chain, from the field to the plate" Jo Lambrecht, Head of Marketing and Sales at BelOrta.
