The Italian melon has a big margin for improvement
FJ
Despite a marked improvement in the last 5 years , the Italian production of melons is still poorly exported.
According to ISMEA SERVIZI Italian melon exports in 2014 totaled 30,000 tons and generated € 21 million in revenue. But these exports account for only a little over 5% of the total production of melons in Italy , estimated to 567 000 tonnes in 2014.
The possible increase to increase exports is therefore important. Currently those exports puts Italy in 9th place in the world ranking of exporters. The ranking is dominated by Spain , the United States, Brazil , Mexico, the Netherlands , and to a lesser extent by France , China and Morocco.
