New Zealand is stepping up its campaign against plastics by banning the use of thin bags in supermarkets for fruit and vegetable purchases.
New Zealand has become the 1st country to ban the use of thin plastic bags in supermarkets for fruit and vegetable purchases.
According to local media, single-use thin plastic bags have been banned since July 1, 2023. In 2019 the campaign against single-use plastics had begun with a ban on plastic shopping bags handed to customers at supermarket exits.
"New Zealand produces too much waste, too much plastic waste," said Associate Environment Minister Rachel Brooking.
