Raspberry farmers and owners of refrigerator facilities failed to reach agreement on the prices
Raspberry farmers and owners of refrigerator facilities failed to reach agreement on the prices at their meeting on in Užice, western Serbia. All buyers failed to show up at the meeting, while it was attended by Serbian government officials, but not by Agriculture Minister Saša Dragin.
Farmers who grow raspberries in Serbia’s west last week protested in front of the government headquarters in Belgrade. President of the Vilamet Association of Berry Producers of Arilje Dragiša Terzic told the press that the farmers continue to insist on bulk price of 1,73 EUR for one kilogram, while buyers are offering 1,24 EUR.
Currently, that figure is 1,13 EUR for one kilogram of the fruit. But there was agreement for the sides to meet again on September 4 in Užice. That meeting is to be attended by the representatives of the Union of Owners of Cold Storage Facilities, whom the raspberry farmers blame the most for holding a monopoly position in the market, Terzic noted.
