Onion production will be lower this year in Europe
FJ
For the 2015/16 season production estimates show lower volumes for onions.
AMI (Agrarmarkt Austria) estimates production in the EU-28 at 5,450,000 tonnes, a lower volume of approximately 8% compared to the previous season.
This figure is based on the collection of information in the 28 countries of the European Union. For some countries they are estimated before harvest and other actual production figures after harvest.
In northern and western Europe, volumes are good. For cons, the declines are significant in Austria, Spain and Poland. Volume increases are expected in France and Denmark. The situation is more uncertain in the UK and the Netherlands.
